If Rory McIlroy staves off Sergio and Ricky on his way to an Open victory at Royal Liverpool today, it will be yet another major feather in the cap of the Nike Method putter.
Indeed, as we reported a few weeks ago, Michelle Wie rocked the Nike Method 006 model en route to a victory at the U.S. Women’s Open, which was just the latest in a long line of major wins for the Method.
Rory McIlroy’s putter is also the Nike Method 006, which belongs to the original milled Method line launched in 2010, and which has racked up an impressive run on the professional circuits over the past four years, including victories at the Masters, U.S. Open and British Open.
The Method 006 putter has a “polymetal” face groove technology. The ported polymer design allows for weight to be redistributed from the front and center to the rear perimeters of the putter for enhanced stability. The polymer grooves are designed to give way to secondary steel grooves for “controlled forward roll.” The polymer dampens vibration upon impact.
This article displays a Method 001 which is Tiger’s putter, not Rory!
Method 001 is based on Newport 2 whereas 006 is based on Scotty 009
