One of the golf world’s perennial “best buys” is back this fall as Cleveland Golf releases the latest iteration of its Classic Collection putter line.
We’ve been raving about the Cleveland Classics for the past five years. Since day one, they’ve offered tremendous bang for the buck. The price has risen a bit over the years, but so has the quality. The result is a putter that is hard to beat for $99.
As seen in this unboxing, the Classic Collection HB Black Pearl putters feature a signature “black pearl” finish and deeper face billing that is designed to promote a soft feel. Some of the earlier Classic putters came with a questionably hard grip, but that quibble has been remedied by the addition of a softer Winn grip. The head cover is the nicest yet as well, with fine embroidery and stylish contrasting threads.
The look of the Classic putters is sleeker than ever, too. You have to love the inset “Face Milled” emblem on the face that resists the urge to be slathered with contrasting paintfill. That’s the kind of design confidence that you would associate with a premium putter.
There are four models in the line, all traditional in shaping. Pictured here is the Classic HB 2 heel-shafted mid mallet with full toe hang.
The performance is rock solid as always. These are called Classic for a reason. They don’t have a big technology story or fancy alignment scheme. They are straight-up sticks with a smooth feel and classic look, and the value remains remarkable.
