The future is now for famed putter designer Robert Bettinardi and Mizuno Golf, who have again joined forces to launch a new line of putters—the Mizuno Bettinardi Black Carbon series with Feel Impact Technology (F.I.T.).
In an exclusive interview with PutterZone.com last spring, Bettinardi described his partnership with Mizuno, which started in 2006, as the uniting of “two like minds.” He elaborated: “Both companies represent the highest quality in golf equipment. Both companies also have expert engineering. Lastly, both companies have the knowledge and experience in the manufacturing process. We truly are thrilled with the partnership and are excited for what the future holds.”
We now know what the future held back then. The Mizuno Bettinardi Black Carbon series was announced last week, and the three models in the series will begin shipping via TGW.com and other online retailers for $249 each in early October. Check with your local retailer for in-store availability.
The three models are the BC1, a heel-toe weighted putter with squared edges and a plumber’s neck hosel; the BC2, a modified rocker-back style putter with a plumber’s neck hosel; and the BC3, a heel-toe weighted mallet with a wide flange. Luke Donald is already playing the BC1 on the PGA Tour.
The F.I.T. technology resides in the uniquely milled center portion of each putter face. According to the Mizuno Golf, each putter is “precision milled from one piece of pure 11L17 carbon steel for ultra consistency and a uniquely milled face reduces the surface area of where the ball makes contact with the putter face by 70 percent, delivering extremely solid feel to every putt.”
