PING unveils its new iWi putters, the Itsy Bitsy Spider is official, and Golfdotz are coming to a store near you. Here’s the latest putter buzz on the PGA Tour and beyond:
1. PING Golf announced this week that it will launch a new line of putters in late September. The new line offers classic PING putter designs such as the Anser (pictured here) and Zing under the banner of iWi. The iWi putters ($190) are made from 17-4 stainless steel and feature an insert made of 304 stainless steel and elastomer for “steel face performance with soft feel.” The iWi putters also feature two 12-gram removable steel weights on the heel and toe of the sole. An optional weight kit ($70) includes pairs of 20-gram and 28-gram tungsten sole weights for personal customization. Says CEO John Solheim, “We’ve utilized the density of tungsten in strategic locations to optimize weight distribution and maximize performance.”
2. You heard it here first a few months ago, but today TaylorMade made it official with an announcement—the Itsy Bitsy Spider putter does exist and will be released to the public on October 24 at a suggested retail price of $240. The Itsy Bitsy Spider is the diminutive offspring of TaylorMade’s successful Spider putter, which was introduced earlier this year. According to TaylorMade, the Itsy Bitsy Spider “was created at the request of tour pros who wanted a midsize Spider that, like the original, is extremely forgiving, easy to aim and delivers excellent roll.” The head is 20 percent smaller than the original Spider. The Itsy Bitsy Spider has already been spotted in the hands of several PGA Tour pros.
3. In an earlier piece, PutterZone.com raved about Golfdotz, which are innovative new tattoos for your golf ball. Not only do Golfdotz enable you to express yourself with shamrocks, aliens, skulls, flowers, animals and more, they provide a practical alternative to messy ink pens for marking your ball and making it easy to identify while in play. This week, Golfdotz announced the unveiling of their new web store, and they are also now available at a variety of major golf outlets.
